OBJECTIVES
This API 510 ICP Certification Preparation course is designed to prepare individuals to take the API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector ICP exam by teaching them:
- topics described in the API 510 Body Of Knowledge 2024;
- which code documents are required according to the API 510 ICP Effective Sheet 2024; and
- how to navigate through code documents to find information.
Note: ITC Skills does not have prior knowledge of future API ICP examination questions.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
The goal of this Certification Preparation course is to assist the learner in passing the API 510 ICP exam by mastering the topics described in the Body of Knowledge. Learners will learn all topics described in the API 510 Body Of Knowledge 2024, including how to:
- identify the responsibilities for owner/user organization, engineer, repair organization, inspector, and examiners;
- perform calculations involving thickness measurements, inspection intervals, and vessel integrity;
- evaluate welding procedures and qualifications based on ASME Section IX; and
- determine the code requirements for nondestructive examination.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This training course is intended for API 510 inspector examination candidates who have both inspection experience and experience working with the API and ASME Codes. Experience with API and ASME Codes is required during the supervision of inspection activities as described in the ICP Qualification Requirements. API ICP exam candidates are expected to have a broad base of general knowledge and experience covering all topics described in the API Body of Knowledge.
ITC Skills provides this course to help candidates prepare for the API exam. However, this course is a separate entity from the API examination.
COURSE OUTLINE
The API 510 ICP Exam Preparation course consists of 10 modules, including over 1,100 practice questions to prepare for the exam that can be answered as many times as needed.
Module 1: Getting Started
- Provides information on the API 510 ICP exam and study tips.
Module 2: API 510
- Covers API 510 Code, excluding Section 9 and Appendix E, in accordance with the API 510 ICP Body of Knowledge.
Module 3: API RP 572
- Covers API RP 576, including Annex B, but not other Annexes in accordance with the API 510 ICP Body of Knowledge.
Module 4: API RP 576
- Covers entire document, except Annexes in accordance with the API 510 ICP Body of Knowledge.
Module 5: ASME Section VIII, Div. 1
- Covers Sections U, UG, UW, UCS, Appendices 1-4, 6, 8, and 12 in accordance with the API 510 ICP Body of Knowledge.
Module 6: ASME Section IX
- Covers welding sections of document in accordance with the API 510 ICP Body of Knowledge.
Module 7: ASME Section V
- Covers Articles 1, 2, 6, 7, and 23 Section SE-797 in accordance with the API 510 ICP Body of Knowledge.
Module 8: API RP 577
- Covers entire document, in accordance with the API 510 ICP Body of Knowledge.
Module 9: API RP 571
- Covers 15 damage mechanisms in accordance with the API 510 ICP Body of Knowledge.
Module 10: Self-Assessment
- Includes full sets of self-assessment questions in both closed book and open book formats instructionally designed to prepare for the exam.
It takes an estimated 80-90 hours to complete the course, however, this may vary depending on educational background and work experience. Note: there is a clear correlation between not completing the full training program and not being successful in the API ICP examination.
REQUIRED CODE DOCUMENTS
Learners will need the API 510 ICP Exam Documents to complete this course and study for the certification exam. A list of the exam documents can be found on the API 510 ICP Effectivity Sheet on the API website. It is important to study with the correct document editions which have had paragraphs irrelevant to the exam removed to maximize chances of passing the API 510 ICP Exam.
